Tomb Raider: WTF

Really, guys? Rape?

You thought it would be a good idea to rape Lara Croft? Not just rape her, but make the player experience that? Really? Fuck you stupid game developers for making Tomb Raider something I don’t want to play, for fear of being SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. I didn’t think it was possible for you to ruin titties and puzzles, but apparently someone had a stroke when they were thinking up the concept for the new game.

Here’s tip: just because the numbers say that high percentages of women experience unwanted sexual advances and assault, that doesn’t mean we want that in our games. Watching/playing Lara Croft - the Indiana Jones of video games - get raped does NOT make her more relatable. You would never make me pay a male action hero character getting raped, or think that it was necessary to make it believable that he is a bad ass/hardcore.

Just FYI, there is never a time when I am playing a video game when I pause it, squint my eyes and think: “You know what this game needs? Rape. There is not enough rape happening on my screen.” Even the monster-on-monster action in Silent Hill 2 (my favorite game of all time, barring Link to the Past and Legend of Mana) made me feel some type-a way.

In conclusion, I will let Donald show you exactly how I feel about raping Lara Croft (whether or not it is attempted or successful):
